Q. Where does the bamboo come from?
A. Our bamboo comes from the bamboo plantations of Eastern China, specifically the Zhejiang Provinces.

Q. Are pandas harmed by the harvesting of this bamboo?
A. Absolutely not. Pandas only eat certain types of bamboos. The bamboo species we use for our bamboo products is not eaten or used by Pandas for either a food source or a habitat.

Q. Can bamboo flooring be refinished?
A. Yes. Just as wood floors are refinished from time to time, so can bamboo flooring. It is handled in exactly the same way.

Q. What about your glues and laminates? Are they harmful?
A. No. Our factories use only the finest adhesives and laminates available and do not off-gas. They exceed all OSHA and EPA standards.

Q. What is the difference between horizontal grain and vertical grain?
A. Laminated bamboo is produced when several strips of bamboo, about an inch wide and 1/8 inch thick, are laid upon each other and glued together under high pressure. The outward surface of the horizontal product reveals the strips’ width, placed neatly one next to another. In this presentation, the characteristic knots of bamboo are clearly viewed every 6 to 10 inches lengthwise. Conversely, vertical grain is produced with only the thin edges of the strips appearing on the outward surface of the product. These strips are only about 1/8 of an inch thick so the appearance is more pinstriped.

Q. What colors are available?
A. In truth, a multitude of colors are possible. However, many prefer the natural, exquisite beauty of bamboo. There are two common processing techniques producing two different colors of raw material: The first is the natural, light golden-blond color most people are accustomed to. Secondly, a darker, richer, toffee-like color is produced by processing the bamboo in a highly pressurized steam treatment for a period of time, which carbonizes the sugars in the material. Thirdly, bamboo can be finished using stains. Bamboo accepts commonly used commercial stains customarily used on wood, providing opportunities for an array of colors.

Q. Why is bamboo considered a “green” building material?
A. Simply stated, bamboo’s environmental sustainability earns it recognition as a green building material. Bamboo grows to maturity in about five years compared to decades, or even more than a century, for hard or exotic woods. Once harvested, the rhizomes or roots left in the ground immediately begin regenerating new growth. More material is produced per acre by bamboo than by any wood on the planet. Virtually every part of the plant is used for things such as bamboo shoots for food or charcoal for heat or cooking. There is no deforestation, no waste of essential water resources, and maximum utilization of land resources.

Q. Does the company offer any product warranties?
A. The company offers excellent warranties for both commercial and residential installations. For commercial installations, we offer a 10-year structural warranty and a 5-year finish warranty. For residential installations, we offer a 10-year structural warranty and a 25-year finish warranty.

Q. What makes bamboo a better alternative than commonly used hardwood flooring?
A. Unlike hardwood trees requiring minimum of 30-80 years to maturity, bamboo is a grass that grows to maturity in less than 6 years and is renewably harvested over and over from the same plants
